Ba-buuh Ba-buuh – free ride on the ambulance…

Well – you have plans – and you have plans… and then life, -
And I had LOTS of plans for these last days of 2010 : especially to clean out my inbox and undone tasks at the office (doing economics – these last and then first days of an old – and a new year can really be hectic…)
Also I planned to clear and clean out my personal papers and do whatever tax preparations I could do for 2009.
And I planned for some nice training trips on my “new” ergo metric indoor bike and maybe some nice walk outdoors in this “winter wonderland” that this year struck Stavanger around Xmas.
But plans aside – reality struck me Monday morning – then to my surprise I wake up with intense pain in my lower back – making it almost impossible to leave the bed. I had no idea what had happened – and I needed close to 15 minutes just to drag myself up from bed and to the toilet , – and I had to repeat the same again 2 hours later. Then I gave up any idea of going to work this day, – and sms’ed in sick. After getting up from bed again later that day, and starting to feel a little bit better / more flexible in the back – I called XY in China and told what happened. She of course became worried – and wanted me to go to the hospital right away – while I “of course” wanted to wait an see a little more before I did any more. So we settled for me calling my mom instead.
Mom came with bus (due to the slippery roads) a couple of hours later, – and wanted me to lay flat down on the floor for a little so she could try to massage my back a little.
Well – this did not have the good effect we wanted – instead I was suddenly totally locked to the floor – having unknown pain in my back and down my right thigh/ass for any little movement I didn’t to try to get up. After 20-30 minutes and some screaming, moaning and a “healthy” share of tears we had no other option then to call for an ambulance to pick me up. Only 10 minutes later the paramedics was here with the ambulance and with the two of them + my mom I was safely put in the vehicle in less than 30 more minutes, and then driven to the emergency room of the hospital.
The doctor told me I got swollen in the muscles around my lower back from shuffling away snow in the yard + slipping on the ice, – and that I probably would be very painful for 2-3 days before I would get gradually better.
After seeing the doctor, – including an injection into the right part of my ass, – my sister Grete and her husband Jan Egil came to pick us up at the hospital, and drive us to the emergency pharmacy for more painkillers, and then home. At this time I was put in a wheel chair to be rolled out from the doctors office to the door, due to my reaction to the injection was a pale white face, and a feeling of dizziness and nausea. This was actually a brand new car they had pick up form the car dealer this day, and on the 1,2 km distance from the pharmacy to my house – I made sure I was the first person to puke in it – as the injection now had made me sick as a dog. Luckily I manage to warn Jan Egil to stop at the first possible bus stop, – so I could aim my “crab food” out of the car door…
Well at home – I felt better after getting rid of my stomachs content – and I manage to eat my first proper meal for the day – at 21:00 in the evening. I told my mom I would manage at my own, – but waited another 90 minutes before I went to bed, – just in case.
At night I actually felt no better than on the day – and for the first 8 hours in bed I was just to afraid to fall asleep, – and had to get up every 2 hours for toilet, – needing 15 minutes for getting out of the bed every time
and I only managed to lay on my back, – as all other positions and movements was to painful.
Finally in around 7 I could lay on my side, and fall asleep until around 09:30 then I got up again. I talked to mom in the phone – took my first painkiller pills, and called XY from the laptop. I still had big problem moving around, or doing anything – so my mom came by to check on my – but after being up 2-3 hours I started to feel better.
I hope the doctor is right about the 2 days… and I really hope I could even get myself to work at least half the day tomorrow… and I hope I can get a good night sleep tonight – and start tomorrow even less stiff then now…
Unfortunately I have no photos of me in the ambulance…
I was kinda not thinking of that at that moment
hehe
Best Wishes
Uff, hope it gets better fast!
